development and production of industrial process CO2 lasers
Relying on its pilot production and on the innovation organizations existing in its area,
ILIT RAS is engaged in the development and production of industrial process CO2
lasers of the power of 0.5 to 10 kW. The Institute also develops and manufactures laser
systems for cutting, welding and surface treatment of metallic and nonmetallic materials,
optoelectronic and laser devices to perform subsurface diagnostics of defects in materials.
To achieve high beam quality of multikilowatt industrial lasers, the Institute has
performed a fundamental research on instabilities in a gas discharge; the role of
nonlinear phase inhomogeneities of active medium has been studied; a range of new highly
efficient optical elements and systems have been produced; and principles of adaptive
correction of powerful laser radiation have been elaborated.

The lasers designed at the ILIT RAS are highly attractive for precision cutting of metallic
(thickness to 15 mm) and nonmetallic (thickness to 40 mm) materials, welding
(various materials), surface heat treatment, and facing.
Industrial 6 kW CO2 laser for cutting large-thickness metals
In an effort to produce devices for nondestructive testing of subsurface defects,
a new noncontact method of optoacoustic laser diagnostics has been devised. This
approach to diagnostics has been demonstrated to be applicable for studying internal
imperfections of composites, plastics, ceramics, and metals.
The diagnostics is useful for evaluation of porosity, fatigue stresses, layer
thicknesses, as well as for slicing check in laminated materials.
